How to Pay for a Used Tire Container from Japan

The three accepted payment routes - T/T bank transfer, L/C at sight for yearly contracts and Wise - with the invoicing currencies USD, EURO and JPY

Payment is where a first order from a new supplier feels riskiest, so it is worth setting out plainly. Here is how buyers actually pay us for a used tire container from Japan, and which currencies we invoice in.

The methods we accept

T/T — bank to bank transfer

This is how most of our buyers pay. A telegraphic transfer from your bank to ours, against our invoice. It is the standard instrument in this trade, it leaves a clean record on both sides, and it is what we will quote against unless you ask for something else.

L/C at sight

For buyers on a yearly contract, we also work with a letter of credit at sight. An L/C costs more to open and takes longer to set up than a T/T, so it earns its place on a repeating programme rather than on a single trial container.

Wise

We accept Wise. For buyers in markets where a conventional bank transfer to Japan is slow or expensive, this is often the practical route.

Currencies

We invoice in USD, EURO or JPY. Pick the one that costs you least in conversion — if your own revenue is in dollars, being invoiced in dollars removes a currency step and the spread that goes with it. Tell us your preference at the quotation stage so the offer is written in the currency you will actually pay in.

How payment fits into the order

  1. You send us tire types, sizes, container size and destination port
  2. We come back with a CIF offer — freight and insurance to your port included
  3. You confirm the order and we invoice
  4. You pay by T/T, L/C at sight or Wise, in USD, EUR or JPY
  5. We load and ship, and send you the shipping documents

Yard visits are welcome once the purchase is confirmed, so if seeing the stock before the container sails matters to you, say so early.

Reducing the risk on a first order

Two things make a first purchase from any Japanese supplier easier to commit to. The first is a 20ft container — we accept 20ft specifically for an initial trial, so you can judge the grading on roughly half the volume before moving to 40ft. The second is that we sell CIF with insurance on every shipment, so the cargo is covered for the voyage rather than left to you to arrange.
