We ship used tires from Japan by the container to West Africa. Burkina Faso has no coastline, so every container clears at one of three neighbouring ports first — the same ones we cover on our Togo, Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire pages.
Tema (Ghana)
Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire)
We found no law in Burkina Faso’s customs code restricting or banning used tire imports. The UEMOA/ECOWAS common external tariff applies in one of four bands (0/5/10/20%); we could not confirm which applies to HS 4012.20. Separate rules govern used vehicle imports (a two-tier valuation by vehicle age) but do not touch standalone tires.
Three ports, one landlocked destination
Burkina Faso has no seaport, so cargo reaches it overland from one of three neighbouring gateways: Lomé in Togo, Tema in Ghana, or Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire — each of which we also ship to directly. Which one makes sense depends on where in Burkina Faso you are and which forwarder you use for the inland leg; ask us for a routing comparison. Inland, cargo generally clears through the Bobo-Dioulasso dry port, which more than doubled its throughput between 2009 and 2024 after a major expansion.
The ocean route
We quote CIF to Lomé, Tema or Abidjan, whichever your onward transport into Burkina Faso is set up for.
We load from thirteen Japanese ports — Ishikari, Tomakomai, Hachinohe, Akita, Sendai, Niigata, Kashiwazaki, Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe and Moji. Which one we use depends on where the stock is collected, not on where you are.
We do not publish transit times, because they depend on the carrier and the routing on the day. Ask us when you enquire and we will give you the schedule we are actually being quoted.

Terms and payment
We quote CIF to your discharge port. Marine insurance is included on every shipment. Freight is normally prepaid in Japan; collect at your end can be arranged if that suits your bank better.
Most customers pay by T/T. For a yearly contract we also work with L/C at sight.
FAQ — importing used tires from Japan to Burkina Faso

Which port should the container go to?
Lomé (Togo), Tema (Ghana) or Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) — all three are established routes into Burkina Faso. It depends on your onward transporter and where in the country you are based.
How does the cargo reach Burkina Faso from the port?
By road, generally clearing through the Bobo-Dioulasso dry port. That leg is arranged by your own transporter; we quote CIF to the coastal port only.

One 40ft container.
Can I mix sizes and types in one container?
Yes. Tell us the sizes and roughly what share of each you want.
