We ship used tires from Japan by the container. Mongolia is landlocked, so a shipment reaches it by sea to a Chinese port and then overland — this page covers the route and what we could and could not confirm about the rules.

We found no AP-style import permit for used tires, of the kind Malaysia requires. A 2019 report put the cost at roughly 15% (5% duty plus 10% VAT), with no quantity restriction we could confirm. Mongolia is a Basel Convention party with a waste-import law on the books; whether that is applied to usable tires in practice is not something we could confirm from public sources.

How the cargo actually gets there

Mongolia has no coastline. The common routing is by sea to Tianjin in China, then overland — most China–Mongolia trade crosses at Zamyn-Üüd / Erenhot, which handles over 70% of the traffic between the two countries. A northern route via Russia (Altanbulag–Kyakhta) also exists. We quote CIF to Tianjin; the onward border crossing is arranged by your side.

The ocean route

We quote CIF to Tianjin, the sea port most used for cargo continuing overland into Mongolia via the Zamyn-Üüd / Erenhot border crossing.

We load from thirteen Japanese ports — Ishikari, Tomakomai, Hachinohe, Akita, Sendai, Niigata, Kashiwazaki, Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe and Moji. Which one we use depends on where the stock is collected, not on where you are.

We do not publish transit times, because they depend on the carrier and the routing on the day. Ask us when you enquire and we will give you the schedule we are actually being quoted.

Full size lists and grading are on the category pages: passenger car tires, truck & bus tires, light truck tires and casings for retreading.

Terms and payment

We quote CIF to your discharge port. Marine insurance is included on every shipment. Freight is normally prepaid in Japan; collect at your end can be arranged if that suits your bank better.

Most customers pay by T/T. For a yearly contract we also work with L/C at sight.

FAQ — importing used tires from Japan to Mongolia

Is a permit required to import used tires into Mongolia?

We found no AP-style permit system of the kind Malaysia requires. A cost of roughly 15% (duty plus VAT) has been reported, with no confirmed quantity limit.

How does a container from Japan actually reach Mongolia?

By sea to Tianjin in China, then overland — most commonly across the Zamyn-Üüd / Erenhot border, which carries the bulk of China–Mongolia trade. We quote CIF to Tianjin; the border crossing is arranged on your end.

Could the rules change?

Possibly. Mongolia is a Basel Convention party with waste-import legislation on the books, and reported customs valuations for used tires are low enough that a future revaluation is not out of the question. We have not found evidence of an active move to do so.

What is the minimum order?

One 40ft container.

Can I mix sizes and types in one container?

Yes. Tell us the sizes and roughly what share of each you want.
